Golf Cart Speedometer Reviews

The first golf cart speedometer in our list is THE most feature-rich device on the market. This unit is a non-GPS type, using a magnetic sensor on the wheel hub.

Golf Cart Speedometer + Multi-function + Universal
Most golf cars and other small task vehicles are ill-equipped to provide users with important information about speed, range, distance, and more. The Ex-Ray is a digital speedometer with an external magnetic tooth sensor mounted to the wheel hub and a remote temperature sensor located on the DC motor.

  • Air and motor temperature displays.
  • Non-Resettable odometer.
  • Lap timer and clock.
  • High-intensity backlight.
  • Auto On/Off.
  • Waterproof connections.

It comes with detailed instructions and the necessary wiring to give a professional look to your Golf Cart.

Pros:
Accurate and the only one on the market specifically designed for your golf cart.

Cons:
Expensive and requires a bit of technical expertise to install.

This unit is an inexpensive way to get your in-dash digital speed and mileage. Although it works well, some find the screen a bit difficult to read in direct sunlight. It does the job and looks good doing it.

Pros:
Inexpensive and easy to install

Cons:
For some customers, the display is difficult to read in broad daylight. First use takes a bit of time to acquire the satellites.

Pros:
This unit is easy to install and very accurate .

Cons:
The backlight is set with no way to brighten or dim. It can take up to 30 seconds to sync with the GPS satellites, but most time it will be ready in under 5 seconds. It is NOT waterproof.

Pros:
Compact and accurate, multiple colors to choose from.

Cons:
Displays military 24hour time. It can have some lag before syncing up.

Pros:
This unit works on a golf cart but was built for automobiles and trucks. A cheaper alternative to some of the other models available.

Cons:
The design makes it difficult to mount on a golf cart. It gets less accurate at higher speeds, but shouldn’t be a problem at golf cart speeds.

Pros:
Waterproof and, after the initial syncing with the satellites, very foolproof.

Cons:
There is no trip counter. Since it isn’t specifically for golf carts, the gauge has a wide range of speed and the area between 0-20 is too small to read with accuracy.

Pros:
Again, a cheaper alternative utilizing an automotive GPS style speedometer, but it will attach to a flat surface or window. The large screen is easy to see and has an auto-brightness feature.

Cons:
Poor translation to English on the instructions.

Pros:
One of my favorites, if only for the display options. Works well at the lower speeds for a golf cart.

Cons:
No external sensor wire for better satellite sensitivity.

A nice little portable unit, easily tied into a cigarette lighter or hard wired into a 12volt source. The compact size makes it easy to find a convenient mounting location.

Pros:
Inexpensive and easy to read on the direct non-HUD view.

Cons:
Some random quality control issues. Major language barriers to the instruction translation.

Pros:
This is a good mid-priced unit that will mount into a 3-3/8″ hole in the dashboard. Includes a 12-foot antenna wire and is completely waterproof.

Cons:
Button for MPH/KPH is on the back so it must be set prior to completion of the install. An external switch is required to access the “recall” function.

Pros:
IP67 waterproof and dustproof grade with a choice of 7 color backlight options.

Cons:
Button to change colors is on the back of the unit, so…pick the color first, then install. Same with the MPH/KPH selection. Plan ahead.

Pros:
One of the least costly options to get a speedometer on your golf cart. Good Display and accurate at golf cart speeds.

Cons:
Due to accuracy problems at higher speeds, you won’t want to transfer this to your car when you aren’t using it in the golf cart. The mount is handy but the adhesive will probably need to be replaced with a stronger substitute.

Golf Carts And Speedometers – Final Notes

A good number of the GPS models of Speedometers are from the same manufacturer, just packaged differently and labeled by a different merchant. This is acceptable as long as you read the customer feedback regarding returns and ease of install/use.

Some bicycle speedometers can be adapted to use the wheel hub sensor approach like the top-rated one we have listed here, but many of these do not allow for an 8″ wheel to be input into the calibration.
